Our previous blog update was filled with complex (simple) calculations on the number of coins it would take to make a mile. It was inspired by Malvern Rotary's annual charity collection with its aim "to raise a mile of coins."
We were feeling quite happy with that, as we thought it was an interesting titbit, until we had an email off a friend of ours at Malvern Solicitors. This bright spark wanted to know how much a mile of coins would weigh. (These solicitors! They're nothing but trouble-makers, honestly!)
So it's back to the calculator for us, and after much sweat and tears and Google searching, I can offer up the following answers:
1p coin: (79,278 in a mile): Weight is 3.5grams, so a mile would weigh 277kg.
2p coin: (62,136 in a mile): Weight is 7.12grams, so a mile would weigh 442.41kg.
£2 coin: (56,667 in a mile): Weight is 12grams, so a mile would weigh 680kg.
So, if you can think of a suitable counter challenge to Malvern Solicitors, then please let me know!
