With the weekend just gone and summer 2016 now officially 'opened' (amongst torrents of rain that painted the streets a darker hue and made the grass shine), this weekend always had a lot penned into on my wall hanging calendar (it is not, alas, a Malvern Decorators calendar, though now that thought has entered my head I might have to put something together from those fine people at Vista Print or Photobox - so watch out my future clients: you might have pictures of me and the team gurning at you for the next annum - though I'll try to keep a straight face for April 1st).
On Saturday, I got down to the Three Counties and had a nice mooch around. It's been many a year since I have actually visited this place (the ticket cost is on the steep side), and there was a great vibe down there - although I was not fortunate enough to see the Trooping of the Colours - still, I managed to procure myself a packet of vanilla fudge which softened nicely in the car on the journey home. It was purchased with the best of intentions: as a treat for someone else. It ended up being wolfed down with rejuvenating cup of tea upon my return. Who knew?
Yesterday, I enjoyed MappFest down on the Malvern Link Common. Each year it's been getting steadily bigger and busier, and the money raised for charity continually marches on. And at one o'clock, flying up and fresh from a display at Weston-Super-Mare, came the unmistakable roar of a Spitfire engine, followed by a Hurricane. They gave a quick pass over, dipped their wings, and flew off to the north (back to their base at Coningsby). (If ever you are interested in looking out for these flybys of our aviation history, then check out the RAFs page here: http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/displays/displaydates.cfm)
If only the weather could have been slightly better, it would have been 'even more wonderful.'
